Our Media Center Mission

The mission of the North Duplin Elementary School Library Media Center empowers young minds through the joy of reading. Our elementary library program is dedicated to fostering a lifelong love for learning, cultivating critical thinking, and nurturing creativity. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive space where students explore diverse literature, develop essential literacy skills, and embark on imaginative journeys that shape their future success. Our goal is to ensure that NDE students and staff are effective users of ideas and information, are lifelong learners, and explore the world through the love of reading!

Our Media Center Goals

• Promoting a love for reading AND learning!

  • We strive to prioritize fostering a love for reading and learning. By integrating MakerSpaces and hands-on activities, students can explore literature in interactive ways, such as creating projects inspired by books or participating in storytelling and book-related activities. This goal aims to make our library a dynamic space where students not only consume information, but actively engage with it. 

• Enhancing critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Our library MakerSpace provides an excellent environment for developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Incorporating hands-on opportunities allows students to tackle real-world challenges, encouraging them to think critically and find solutions independently or collaboratively. 

• Encouraging collaboration and teamwork

  • Our library program promotes a collaborative learning environment. MakerSpaces naturally lend themselves to group projects and teamwork, fostering communication and cooperation among students. Group activities and flexible library book discussions encourage the sharing of ideas and the development of social skills, which are crucial for future success.

• Cultivating creativity and innovation

  • Our library utilizes books, digital resources and MakerSpace materials to inspire creativity and innovation! Through hands-on activities, students can explore their imagination, experiment with different ideas, connect thoughts with books, and turn their visions into tangible projects. This goal is essential for nurturing a mindset of innovation that will benefit students in their academic pursuits and future careers, emphasizing the importance of creativity in various aspects of life. 

• Working with teachers to design and implement authentic learning experiences that meet the academic and personal information needs of students

  • I will strive to align library resources and activities with the classroom curriculum, ensuring a cohesive and integrated learning experience for students. This partnership reinforces key concepts through library materials and promotes a seamless connection between classroom instruction and the broader world of literacy, information, and MakerSpace materials.
